Investor KITAS for PT PMA Shareholders in Bali: Step-by-Step Guide 2026

Obtaining an Investor KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) is the most common legal residency pathway for foreign shareholders of an active PT PMA in Bali. Unlike a tourist visa or KITAS for employment (which requires an Indonesian employer to sponsor you), the Investor KITAS is tied to your PT PMA shareholding and investment activity in Indonesia.

Who Qualifies for an Investor KITAS?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Hold shares in a legally active PT PMA registered with BKPM and holding a valid NIB
  • Meet the minimum capital commitment declared during PT PMA incorporation (currently IDR 10 billion per KBLI activity)
  • Have a valid passport with at least 18 months validity from the date of application
  • Not be on any Indonesian immigration blacklist

Note: A nominee shareholder arrangement (where a local Indonesian nominally holds shares on behalf of a foreigner) does not qualify. The foreign national must be the genuine, declared beneficial owner of the shares in the BKPM and AHU records.

Documents Required for Investor KITAS Application

  • Valid passport (colour copy of all pages with entries)
  • PT PMA’s NIB from OSS platform
  • SK Kemenkumham (Ministry of Law company registration letter)
  • Shareholder register (Daftar Pemegang Saham) showing your ownership percentage
  • Director/Commissioner appointment letter
  • Company deed (Akta Pendirian)
  • Sponsor letter (Surat Permohonan) from the PT PMA addressed to the immigration office
  • Notarised power of attorney if submitted by a representative
  • Recent passport photograph (standard immigration specifications)
  • Health certificate from an authorised clinic (required for applications through certain immigration offices)

Investor KITAS Application Process

  1. Prepare company documents — Ensure the PT PMA NIB is active and not in arrears on LKPM filings. Any compliance gap will cause the immigration application to be rejected or delayed.
  2. Prepare application packet — Compile passport, company documents, and sponsorship letter. All documents requiring notarisation must be processed by a licensed Indonesian notary.
  3. Submit to Directorate General of Immigration — Applications are typically submitted to the Kantor Imigrasi (immigration office) in the province where the PT PMA is registered (Bali: Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I Khusus TPI Ngurah Rai or Kantor Imigrasi Bali).
  4. Biometric appointment — The applicant must be physically present in Bali for fingerprint and photo capture. This step cannot be completed remotely.
  5. KITAS card issuance — Processing time at Bali immigration is typically 4–8 weeks after biometric completion, subject to current queue.

Investor KITAS Duration and Renewal

The Investor KITAS is typically issued for 1 or 2 years and is renewable annually as long as the PT PMA remains in good standing with BKPM and immigration. A KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit) may be applied for after 5 consecutive years of valid KITAS residence.

Renewal must begin at least 30 days before the current KITAS expires. Overstaying results in fines and can affect future applications. We track renewal deadlines for clients on a compliance retainer and initiate the process on time.

Common Reasons Investor KITAS Applications are Rejected

  • PT PMA NIB is suspended due to overdue LKPM filings
  • Declared investment capital not reflected in bank statements or company accounts
  • KBLI activity mismatch between the company registration and the actual business being conducted
  • Incomplete or incorrectly notarised documents
  • Applicant on immigration watchlist due to previous overstay or visa violations

We prepare and coordinate the full Investor KITAS application for PT PMA shareholders, including document compilation, notarisation coordination, immigration liaison, and biometric appointment scheduling. Contact our concierge service to discuss your situation.
